The 7+ and 8+ Exam

Starting your child on their academic journey can be an exciting and also daunting experience and at Brentley-Edwards Education, we understand this and have years of experience and expertise to help you and your children on their journey.

Many independent preparatory and junior schools in London and other parts of the UK ask children to sit assessments in Mathematics, English and Reasoning (verbal and non-verbal) and often ask them attend an interview which all forms part of a 7+ entrance exam or 8+ entrance exam. Our team of private tutors in London and online and our support team comprises of several expert 7+ and 8+ entrance exam tutors who have had years of experience with the 7+ entrance exams and indeed the 8+ entrance exams and have honed their knowledge and expertise to make the process as easy, straightforward and stress-free as possible.

We can give more detailed information about specific schools requiring a 7+ entrance exam or 8+ entrance exam during a complimentary consultation but the exam period tends to run between November – February when your child is in year 2.

Our Approach to the 7+ and 8+ Exam

Firstly, it’s important to understand that the 7+ entrance exams and assessments are designed to gauge your child’s potential and aptitude rather than being a stringent measure of their current abilities and so the approach our private tutors take is much less prescriptive than you might imagine. Our private tutors in London and private tutors online who work with the 7+ entrance exams aim to give your child a good solid grounding in reading comprehension, creative writing, mathematics, verbal and non-verbal reasoning whilst slowly gearing them up mentally, so they know what to expect for their 7+ entrance exams.

Building confidence and making lessons engaging and fun are also at the core of what all our private tutors do and sit in line with our 3 E principles (enthusiasm, enjoyment and excellence).

If your child is successful in their 7+ entrance exams or 8+ entrance exams, they are often invited for a morning or afternoon session at the school where observed group activities and an interview take place. This is an opportunity for the school to learn more about your child and see them in a social and inter-personal environment. This can seem nerve-wracking but is, in fact, a fantastic opportunity for your child to shine and our expert 7+ entrance exam private tutors can help guide you through this.
